The Italian language

The Italian language

Italian is one of the romance languages, which are derived from Latin, the language of the Romans. It is spoken by almost all of the population, although in many parts of Italy the people take pride in preserving their distinct regional dialects. Ethnic minorities account for less than 2 percent of the total population. Written materials in Italian date from the 10th century (a set of court records with the testimony of the witnesses in the Italian vernacular), and the first literary work of length is the Ritmo Laurenziano ("Laurentian Rhythm") of the late 12th century.
Speaking Italian opens the world of food, wine, history and music to you. Be a part of a romantic, exciting culture and enjoy sharing the richness of life with your Italian friends.
Culture, food and history all form part of the Italian way of life

THE STANDARD ITALIAN - MY ITALIAN BACKGROUND

In Italy we say "the pure Italian is the Tuscan Italian in a Roman mouth".

Italy is composed by 20 regions and every region, every single town speaks  different Italian, with a different accent. North and South Italy speak with a very strong dialect. The open or closed pronunciation of the vowels "O" and "E" and doubling consonants "R" and "T" are the most crucial issues. The Italian spoken in Sardinia is considered a different language.

This is what makes our Italian language very rich and interesting.

Usually the Italian tutor's accent reflects on the students Italian speaking. I usually spend a lot of time with my Italian students in reviewing the correct use of the Italian sounds to  improve the pronunciation of the vowels "O" and "E".

Pay attention when you choose your Italian tutor abroad. Look for one who comes from Rome or Tuscany and which have some basics of articulation.
